Chicago/USA – As national MMR vaccination rates among kindergarteners continue to decline, according to a recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report, the U.S. has recorded its first adult measles-related deaths of 2026 in Pennsylvania.

"The decrease in kindergarten MMR vaccinations will definitely hurt our herd/community immunity, and more susceptible individuals at all ages will be infected,” said Dr. Tina Tan, a professor of pediatric infectious diseases at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and a pediatrician at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.

“The one major issue that parents need to be aware of and understand is that vaccine-preventable diseases are serious and spread rapidly in the nursery, daycare, preschool and school settings where infants and kids are in close contact,” Tan said. “This is important also for those infants and children who are unable to be vaccinated and who rely on those around them to be.

“The current vaccines used are very safe and effective and provide excellent protection. If parents have questions, they should ask their primary healthcare provider whom they trust. Healthcare providers need to remain strong vaccine advocates for their patients.”
