Green Intentions New Study Reveals Most Eco-Conscious European Countries
A new study by SaveOnEnergy has stated that the citizens of The Netherlands are the most interested in saving the planet followed by The UK, Austria, Sweden and Germany. The study analysed environment-conscious related search volumes within Europe to reach this conclusion.

Though their impact may be small, many individuals around the world are increasingly invested in creating a greener environment for future generations.
After investigating environment-conscious related search volumes within Europe, SaveOnEnergy.com can reveal the top 20 European nations most interested in saving our planet.
The country most interested in saving the planet is The Netherlands. With hearts bigger than their population size, 1.24 searches per 1,000 Dutch citizens are produced - this amounts to over 21,000 searches per month with ‘sustainability’ their most popular phrase.
In second place is The United Kingdom, with 1.01 searches per 1,000 residents - over 68,000 searches are queried per month. The UK’s most popular search phrase is also ‘sustainability’ (28,000 searches) with ‘renewable energy’ in second place at 19,000 monthly searches.
Austria ranks third with 0.96 searches per 1,000 citizens. Austrians are most interested in sustainable ideas as the phrase ‘sustainability’ produces 5,000 out of their total 8,600 environmentally conscious searches per month.
In fourth place is Sweden (0.91 searches per 1,000 residents) and despite Germany’s massive search volume of nearly 70,000 per month, they take fifth place (0.83 searches per 1,000 population).
Most Popular Topic Searches
SaveOnEnergy was also intrigued to find out the most searched for topics concerning the environmental protection of the planet.
The most popular topic for ‘saving our planet’ is ‘sustainability’ with over 198,000 monthly searches from the top 20 European countries with Germany (57,050 searches), The UK (45,100 searches) and The Netherlands (17,110 searches) leading.
In second place is ‘renewable energy’ with nearly 51,000 searches per month across Europe. Created from renewable resources such as sunlight, wind and geothermal heat, people around the world are now increasingly aware of the damaging impact of finite resources.
With over 16,000 searches, ‘eco-friendly’ ranks in third. People are most interested in topics such as ‘how to be more eco-friendly’, ‘eco-friendly choices’ and ‘eco-friendly brands’, insinuating a real positive change in consumer behaviour.
