Hydrogen production requires a lot of space: unused areas must be available for generating electricity from wind or solar power as well as for electrolysis – the actual production process, which also uses large quantities of water. A recent study by PSI led by first author Tom Terlouw identifies the best regions for producing hydrogen to meet the high demand expected in the future. Where Should Hydrogen be Produced in the Future?

Researchers at the Paul Scherrer Institute PSI have analysed which regions of the world could produce hydrogen most cost-effectively in order to build an economy based on this alternative energy carrier rather than fossil-fuel based alternatives. One of their findings is that simply replacing fossil fuels by electricity and hydrogen will not put an end to greenhouse gas emissions.

Leaf-Like Solar Concentrators Promise Major Boost in Solar Efficiency

Researchers at Ritsumeikan University are revolutionizing solar energy capture with a bio-inspired “leaf LSC” design. This innovative approach overcomes longstanding challenges in scaling luminescent solar concentrators, paving the way for more efficient and adaptable solar energy solutions that could transform everything from large-scale installations to building-integrated systems.
