Whether food, e-liquids or pharmaceuticals: ingredients from the cannabis plant form the basis for numerous products. Ande the numbers are drastically increasing. But what must be taken into account in analysis and regulatory guidelines? An online congress on May 12 will provide answers.

Is cannabis a “gateway drug” or can the ingredients in medicine and food products lead to new therapies and better products? This is still being intensively discussed in parts of politics and authorities. Although the possession of cannabis was banned worldwide in 1925, today the limited use of cannabis is allowed in many countries such as Canada, the Czech Republic, Israel or even some US states. Especially in medicine, the effective cannabis ingredients such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabinol (CBN) or tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) are now used for pain therapy or even for neurological diseases. Cannabis products are used, for example, as narcotics or psychoactive substances. In addition, they are said to have a positive effect on metabolic diseases, serve as analgesics or anti-inflammatory drugs and are even used in the treatment of multi-resistant bacteria. In addition, the food industry has also become aware of the cannabis plant, and there are more and more food products containing hemp, such as muesli bars, cereals or even teas. But as with all natural products, the THC or cannabiol content of cannabis varies. For this reason, analysis plays a very important role in the industrial use of cannabis. Raw materials as well as the final products have to undergo extensive quality assurance measures.

On 12 May from 14 to 17 o'clock the online congress “Cannabis — from analysis to application” will take place. Independent scientists and selected companies will show, among other things, how chromatographic methods are developed for cannabis samples or how a registration process for cannabis products is carried out.
