Lab-grown meat literally means meat grown in the lab but what was the need for such innovative production methods when we can already source it from animals? Sustainability is the answer to this. Industry experts that specialize in developing lab-grown meat (also known as cultured meat or cultivated meat) explain that the current method of raising and breeding animals for human consumption significantly contributes to carbon emissions. For instance, enteric fermentation, manure management, deforestation for grazing land, and the production of animal feed all lead to the release of harmful greenhouse gases. To curtail this, they believe that ‘Lab-grown meat’ is the solution.
