Shimadzu presents the TOC-L series, a true workhorse designed to deliver accurate and reliable measurements across a wide range of applications. Utilizing Shimadzu’s 680 °C catalytic combustion oxidation method with a platinum catalyst, the TOC-L series ensures complete oxidation while extending maintenance life. The analysator series is compliant with international standards and pharmacopeias, supporting measurements across multiple sample types and ensuring confidence in every result. The TOC-L series delivers performance across a wide measurement range, from 4.0 µg/L to 30,000 mg/L. This is achieved through the interplay of a high-sensitivity non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) detector and an automatic dilution function, minimizing matrix effects and reducing maintenance requirements. From ultra-pure water to highly contaminated samples, the TOC-L series handles even the most challenging applications, including high-concentration chemicals and acids.

Precision and Versatility for a Large Range of Sample Types

The series offers flexibility, supporting TC, TIC, TOC, and NPOC analyses, with options for total nitrogen (TNb) and purgeable organic carbon (POC), the company points out. It includes simultaneous measurement of TOC and TN (total nitrogen) (when a TN unit is added), the use of compressor air (when a carrier gas purification kit is added), and the measurement of gas samples and solid samples (when a gas sample injection kit and solid sample combustion unit are added). Its advanced integrated sample pretreatment (ISP) module automates sample preparation processes such as acidification, sparging, injection, and rinsing, ensuring contamination-free operation and higher throughput. The system’s optimized flow lines and inert materials are specifically designed to handle particle-containing liquids, including challenging samples like soil suspensions and cellulose control samples.

Eco-Friendly and Space-Saving Design

Shimadzu remains committed to sustainability with the TOC-L series, which uses 43 per cent less energy than previous models. Its compact design reduces the width by 20 per cent, saving valuable laboratory space while maintaining robust performance.

The TOC-L series offers a range of configurations to meet diverse laboratory needs. The ASI-L autosampler supports multiple vial sizes for increased efficiency, while the OCT-L autosampler accommodates up to 16 samples for smaller-scale operations. Optional salt kits enable analysis of high-salinity samples with reduced maintenance, and variable syringe sizes ensure compatibility with limited sample volumes.

The series consists of a high-sensitivity model with a detection limit of 4 μg/L, making it suitable for a variety of applications, including pure water measurements, and a standard model designed with cost performance in mind. Each analyzer is available as an LCD and keyboard-equipped standalone model, or as a PC-controlled model. In addition, the USB format has been adopted as the external interface, enhancing the equipment’s versatility. Even the standalone models are capable of output to a general-purpose PC printer or to a USB memory stick.
