The advantages and disadvantages of cannabis use are once again being hotly debated in Germany since home cultivation was legalized in 2024. Medical prescriptions for medicinal cannabis (flowers and extracts) have been permitted for a few years now, as has the sale of foodstuffs made from so-called industrial hemp or foodstuffs containing industrial hemp ingredients: hemp seeds, protein powder, oils, teas, drinks or even CBD chewing gum and gummy bears.

Reliably analyzing the hemp plants and/or the products made from them is required in order to rule out damage to health caused by contaminants such as pesticides, mycotoxins and heavy metals and to prevent batches with excessive THC or CBD content from coming onto the market.
